Day 6: Up Up Uphill

Dear Backside: Please get back on the bike. I know how you and the seat aren't really getting along but I swear we only have a short little 78 miles today. Legs will pedal fast I promise.

I have passed a Dairy Queen in every town in Texas so after about 45 Dairy Queens I finally gave in an had ice cream for lunch!

Smoking Gun 1. Really touched by the couple in the restaurant... gave me all the money in their wallet for Kayla.

Smoking Gun 2. Never thought I would see another giant smoking gun... then 30 miles down the road from Smoking Gun 1...

Started the day out with 5 miles straight uphill. If you think that means 5 miles downhill after... It doesn't. Then spent the next 50 miles riding on the white line cause trying to keep my body and bike from vibrating apart. Chip-and-seal is pretty rough to ride a road bike on. Started to wonder if I should have brought my mountain bike instead! It definitely would have been more comfortable! But the last 20 to Zavalla were great, smooth roads! Made it to Zavalla and found some Cajun friends with Cajun friends.

78 miles ended at an "interesting" hotel... It's got hot water and a bed, so I can look past the cement floor, plug in heater, and thin towels. And the fact that this was the only place to stay within miles!

The motel may have been crappy but I met some great Louisiana boys, Robert (Computer Tech) and Luke (Accountant). They gave me a little preview of what is to come in Louisiana, great Cajan food and a whole new language! I had no idea what they were saying about half the time! We still managed to have a good time though!

My 11 year old cousin has been progressively losing motor function (can no longer walk or talk) for the last 2 years and has no diagnosis. Her insurance will not work with the hospital, so she needs our help in order to get some answers!
